It's time for the Sunday discount sale!

All remaining plants are 1/3 OFF tomorrow, Sunday, May 12. The sale is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.at the Minnesota State Fair Grandstand. Wristbands will be distributed starting at 9 a.m.

We have had a very busy first two days of the sale (thank you!), but there is good news. You can still find a good selection of plants and several fantastic finds.

"Check Hide sold outs & crop failures" text is encircledYou can tell if a plant is sold out already in the Find Plants section of our website. (Don't miss the new feature, just below the list of Plant Traits, which lets you hide the sold out plants and only see the ones that were still available as of inventory time when a few people were still shopping.)

Here's what you might find on Sunday:

Perennials

Selection varies in the perennials area. While there are a small number of many varieties, you find more of the columbine, coreopsis, anemone, stonecrop, hen and chicks, mother of thyme, mums, Siberian iris, hostas, and yarrow.

It seems the toad lilies were overlooked this year. Yes, the plants are small. We recommend giving them a chance because you will soon be rewarded with a great fall-blooming plant for a shady spot.

And note that the brown speckles you'll see on some of plants' leaves in Perennials (and Native Perennials, and a few other areas) are mineral deposits because the grower is in a rural area using well water. It will disappear as the plants grow larger.

Bulbs & Bareroots (within Perennials)

There are a number of varieties of daylilies and lilies, many with a good number remaining.

Climbers

Rows of clematis plants on display at the SaleThe headline here is the amazing selection of clematis. Lots of varieties and good numbers of each are available.

Miniatures & Succulents

Good selection here! Come check out these colorful cuties!

Native Perennials & Grasses

Some plants are sold out, but there is a surprising array of plants still in stock compared to recent years. The remaining plants are the foundation of a great native plant garden: asters, Joe Pye weed, golden Alexander, blazing star, pearly everlasting, prairie sagebrush, and early sunflower (multiple varieties). As for Grasses, you’ll also find a range of sedges and native grasses.

Shrubs, Trees & Roses

This section is spotty with a few finds left. If you are interested in columnar crabapple trees, about a dozen remain, and some of the best hydrangea varieties.

Fruit

This is your opportunity to pick up a beautiful apple tree or two, including the Espalier Combo. There are a few plums and pears, as well as an assortment of other shrubs and trees. There’s also plenty of rhubarb and June-bearing strawberries! (The plums and rhubarb are located further east down the fence, south of the shrubs.)

Vegetables A shelf full of tomato plants

Ready to grow tomatoes and peppers? We have them! Lots of them! You will also find eggplant, cabbage, asparagus, chard, cuke nuts, onions, scallions, kale and other brassicas, and okra. A decent amount of indoor and outdoor mushrooms are in stock (outside, across from Bulbs & Bareroots).

Herbs

The remaining herbs will nicely complement the tomatoes. You’ll find thyme, sage, rosemary, and fennel. There are also a nice selection of mint varieties and beautiful variegated lavender plants.

Bright purple pink impatiensAnnuals

Selection is thin but better than recent years. Selections include flowering tobacco, spider flower, snapdragons, and impatiens. In Outdoor/Indoor, you might nab a beautiful begonia or calla lily.

Unusual & Rare Plants

There are a number of good plants left, including hellebores, martagon lilies, and small citrus trees.

See you tomorrow!

Is it worth coming to the plant sale on Sunday? Yes! Compared to last year, we have a wide variety of plants still available. Come find a few plants that might just be perfect for your garden.

We hope to see you on Sunday. It's going to be a beautiful day for plants!
