About S. macdonaldiae

Huge fragrant flowers with wide white petals surrounded by spidery yellow outer petals open at dusk and close up as the sun appears. Blooms sparsely for three to four weeks in May and June.

The species is named for Mrs. MacDonald who grew the species at the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew in the 1850s.

About Queen of the Night

These are the largest flowers in the cactus family, 13” across. Thin, lightly spiny stems can grow up to 48” in a year and may need to be tied up. Also known as night-blooming cereus.
