About Wild Mayapple
Pops up in spring with leaves tightly wrapped around the stem, before unfurling out into large umbrellas. Down-facing white flowers. Contrary to the name, it fruits in mid- to late summer, and does not really resemble an apple. When ripe, the 1.5”–2” yellow fruits are prized by foragers, but should be treated with caution as all other parts of the plant, including the seeds and unripe fruit, are toxic.
