Looking for a personality plant? This giant biennial is nice for its first-year rosette of velvety silver gray leaves. Its second-year flower spikes look heavily coated with white fleece. From out of the fleece, 1” yellow flowers bloom for weeks in summer. Despite its height and width, try it in the front of the ­garden so its pettable texture and small flowers can be appreciated. Birds enjoy the seeds.
