Winsome Orchids at the 2012 Sale

Winsome Orchids will once again be part of the Friends School Plant Sale. They will be located under the central stairway, across from the Info Desk.

Because they are in their own area, you will need to pay them directly for any of their plants you purchase, rather than paying at the same time as your plants from the the Plant Sale.

They will have several varieties of orchids for the home (not for the outdoors) available at the sale this year. According to Jim Bull of Winsome Orchids, “My number one key to being successful with orchids in the home is to match the type of orchid to the light conditions available.”

Choices include:

Phalaenopsis orchid

Phalaenopsis — Moth orchids, easiest of all orchids to grow. Blooms up to 10 months at a time.

Paphiopedilum orchids

Paphiopedalum — Lady slipper orchids. This is the tropical variety for indoors, not hardy to Minnesota, but blooms twice a year and blooms last 3 - 4 months each time. Loves low-light conditions.

Oncidium orchids

Ondicidiums — the dancing ladies, in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and colors. Easy to grow in higher light.

Cattleya orchids

Cattleyas — Queen of the orchids, bright colors blooming twice a year with heads of flowers that last 4 - 6 weeks each blooming. Grows in high light conditions.
